How to create an AI energy startup in under six months

Principal Builder Abid Siddiqui shared the stage with Julia Lundin from AES as part of Latitude Media’s Transition-AI conference to discuss how AI Fund and AES are rapidly co-building energy startups.

Since announcing the partnership in June, we’ve already funded on startup (it’s still in stealth) and have more in the works.

Some interesting takeaways from their conversation:

  • Lundin explained that they had to ditch their traditional approach of incubating ideas in-house for years because AI is just moving too quickly — they needed a partner who could keep up with the breakneck pace
  • Siddiqui revealed that AI is making previously “un-investable” energy projects suddenly attractive to venture capital, especially when they can work at a “junior analyst level”
  • Their strategy isn’t just about cutting administrative costs —  it’s also about boosting plant efficiency and output
  • The key to picking winners? Siddiqui looks for what he calls the “hair on fire” problems, that is the urgent issues that need solving across multiple sectors
