AI Instructor
San Juan, Puerto Rico

AI is transforming every industry and has the potential to change our world. We believe that it’s important that the talent to drive this transformation should come from beyond just Silicon Valley.

We have created a seed-stage startup training people from outside Silicon Valley for jobs in Machine Learning.

Our team has collectively educated more people in machine learning than any other organization in the world, and we are now applying that expertise to a new type of startup.

We will be starting with a blended-learning program in Puerto Rico and scaling quickly from there. In this role, you will lead our on-the-ground training in Puerto Rico and be solely responsible for its success.

You will own constructing the curriculum, lead training sessions with students, and intervene when students face obstacles. You will work closely with Andrew Ng.

Here’s what you will do:

  • Organize content for a world-class, blended-learning program to train existing engineers to become machine-learning engineers within six months
  • Lead live training program with students and intervene to overcome any obstacles to 100% completion.
  • Hold office hours daily to address trainees’ questions, lead several general workshops a week, and make immediate tweaks if students are not learning subjects at a fast enough pace.
  • Lead technical interview process to recruit highly motivated candidates who can become extraordinary machine-learning engineers

Here’s the background we’d like you to have:

  • Proven ability to explain complex concepts clearly to a diverse audience: You should be able to take concepts that are tricky, understand why they trip people up, and teach them to a group of people from a variety of different backgrounds.
  • Experience working on deployment as a machine learning engineer: We are designing this program to place students in jobs as machine-learning engineers. Students will often have questions about how things work in practice, and having in the trenches experience will allow you to guide them easily.
  • Ability to identify and anticipate challenges of students going through a rigorous machine learning experience: A key part of the job is ensuring students don’t get stuck in a very fast paced environment. You should sense and, ideally anticipate, when students might run into problems. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to have prior teaching experience, but you should be able to form an accurate picture of the feelings and motivations of those around you.
  • Huge pride in the American citizens of Puerto Rico and their future: We intend for this program to play a large role in turning Puerto Rico into the world’s “AI Island.” You should be excited about helping to make this dream a reality.

We hope you will fit well with our team’s culture:

  • Prioritize Identify your most important tasks for moving the fund forward, and focus on them. Make sure you can stack rank according to priority, communicate out your priorities, and say “no” or “not now” appropriately to low priority items.
  • Execute fast  Move quickly. Set ambitious but realistic deadlines, communicate them out, and stick to it. Don’t take two days to do what can be done in one day, nor two months to do what can be done in one. Startups live or die by their ability to execute, pivot, and grow faster than anyone else.
  • Work hard Startups are a lot of work to build. A core advantage startups have over established companies is that they are willing to work much harder, and so can do much more. Lean in and do the work needed to give them the best chance of success.
  • Own the outcome Raise all fund-related issues directly. Propose solutions to any issue, including higher-level problems that are “outside your job scope.” We’re a small team and you are empowered to try to make anything better.
  • Be helpful Leverage your team’s expertise and be generous in helping others in our ecosystem of companies. Let others help you too, and state your needs clearly to empower others to assist you.
  • Keep improving Be receptive and welcome feedback. Keep looking for opportunities to learn. Keep investing in learning. Set high standards and reach for them.

  • Free snacks, drinks, lunches and dinners daily
  • 401(k) plan with match and immediate vesting after 6 months
  • Untracked PTO including a week off between Christmas and New Year’s
  • Variety of medical, dental and vision coverage to choose from

  • Commuter benefits
  • Collegial atmosphere
  • Direct and transparent communication style
  • Empowered to be the best you can beInnovative environment
  • Work with global AI Leaders

Fund Machine Learning Engineer
Palo Alto, CA

AI Fund is a startup studio that systematically creates and launches new companies that bridge the gap between AI technology and business applications in industries we believe push the world forward.

We are searching for a Fund Engineer who has outstanding technical and communication skills backed by an entrepreneurial spirit. This opportunity is a great match for someone excited about working across a breadth of AI business models and developing an expertise in the earliest stages of entrepreneurship.

This person will be a technical advisor to each early stage idea we work to validate. They will develop a point of view about what is technically promising and what isn’t.

This person doesn’t have to be an expert in all areas, but they should be curious and a quick learner. If they don’t know something well, they must be dogged in finding someone who does.

And they should be able to communicate clearly what they find. This person should also join early customer conversations to answer technical questions. One engineer could likely serve at least 5 companies.

The engineer will focus on three areas:

  • Diligence: Work to structure problems into a machine learning framework and develop a perspective on the technical feasibility of potential solutions based on current practices and the latest research.
  •  Prototyping: The engineer may advise on data collection best practices. In certain cases, once we acquire data, the engineer may build out rough prototypes in order to help us technically validate certain parts of the proposed solution.
  • Customer-facing: Our customers often raise technical questions in our meetings, and it’s important that the engineer be able to address them cogently and in real-time. This will require strong communication skills and an ability to convey technical issues to a non-technical audience.

We hope you’ll fit into our culture:

  • Prioritize Identify your most important tasks for moving the fund forward, and focus on them. Make sure you can stack rank according to priority, communicate out your priorities, and say “no” or “not now” appropriately to low priority items.

  • You’ll develop relationships with candidates to understand their motivation and career goals. You’ll explain the company’s mission and cultural values, and how it fits with where they would like to go with their career.

  • Creativity. We do things a little differently in our recruiting programs. We hope you can step away from the day-to-day, see the bigger picture, and help us develop innovative programs to improve our recruiting practice.
  • Attention to detail and multi-tasking. You’ll be juggling a lot of important projects at once. It will be important both drive them forward quickly and to pay attention to the details so balls don’t get dropped.
