Terry Boyle has a knack for finding growth formulas.  During his career, he had been involved in growing six businesses from zero to over $100M in annual revenue.  Along the way, Terry has worked in many different types of businesses and situations, from Fortune 500 companies to five person start-ups and everything in between.

Terry has always had a focus on leveraging new technologies to impact the consumer experience.  For the last 15+ years he’s been focused on ecommerce and retail, leading businesses such as Zulily, HauteLook, Nordstromrack.com and Trunk Club.  Prior to that, Terry was focused on internet access and wireless.  Terry has seen well timed hyperbolic growth (taking one company from less than $1M in demand to over $1.7B in demand) as well as his fair share of pivots and turnarounds.  The common link is that each business ultimately had a winning formula to achieve high growth.

Terry says of his career path. “I’ve done zero-to-one, I’ve done big company, I’ve done turnarounds. I tend to have a very scrappy attitude about it, and I’m always focused on finding the formula—what’s going to make this specific business work right now.”

That approach has led to repeated success across vastly different contexts. As COO/CFO and later President of HauteLook, Terry led the flash-sale site from less than $1 million to over $300M in revenue and orchestrated its $270 million sale to Nordstrom in 2011. After the acquisition, Terry launched Nordstromrack.com and paired it with HauteLook to reach over $1.7B in Demand.  While at Nordstrom, Terry was also President of Trunk Club, pivoting it from a store-based, men’s business to an online women’s business driven by data science and expanded inventory assortments. Most recently, Terry was CEO of Zulily and oversaw its sale from QVC to a private equity company.

“I’ve been through a lot of growth stages, acquisitions, and integrations,” Terry notes. “Part of what makes me a little different is I understand the strategic value of each company and the context in which it’s operating. You have to be really clear on what you’re building,” he emphasizes.

Terry is known for his situational approach to leadership, adapting his strategy to each company’s unique moment rather than applying rigid rules. “There’s not one right answer,” he explains. “Early on, one initiative or hire might be more important, and then a year later, a new initiative or hire becomes more critical.  Companies go through their unique stages and you need to make sure you adapt to them”

Terry is currently the CEO of Trove – the market leader in software for returns processing and branded resale.  Terry holds a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Harvard College.
